Well our time in Peru has come to an end. We fly to Bogota today. I have to say Peru really got me. The people, the food, the country all really is just spectacular. I could see myself back here spending a lot of time or even living here. The people are really easygoing and open. Beside one cab driver nobody tried to scam us really, I found no aggression and felt very safe the whole time. Lovely sense of humour and closeness but not pushy in anyway. I was really touched by their respect for elders and the infirmed, quequeing signs stated you have to give way to people that might have difficulties and I noticed there was some officials like police in wheelechairs. I really apprecaited the balance of the genders also, there does not seem to be any segrigation, women and men work along side each other. The language barrier is a bit of an issue but we have done quite well, our Spanish is slowly improving and we can understand more. I have been inspired to learn it properly for our next visit.

The food is amazing with lots of flavours. The produce is so good and fresh. We tried to be adventurous and when we were we were rewarded with stunning flavours, Rocoto Relleno is a stuffed chilli (very hot) was maybe my favourite dish. Great trout dishes, roasted and then fried pork chicharon! I had some amazing alpaca last night also. 1500 types of potato, a passion fruit as big as an orange!

Rocoto Relleno:

The land is vast, we did not get time to visit any jungle sadly but my time in the Andes I have loved. The weather is great, hot during day and cool at night. At this altitude there is no mosquitos but you need sun cream. The air is clear and fragrant. Overall there is just something very healthy about the land and the people.

The last few days we wandering the cobbled streets around Ollantaytambo, checking out the sites. There was a big fiesta so the town was very busy and full of life. We became “those people” with matching tattoos. We have been talking about getting matching tattoos for a while, so when we found a really talented artist by chance in Olly we had to go for it.

We had lovely day yesterday hiking around the mountains and valleys. We visited a ruin called Moray, it was a sort of botanical laboratory created by the Inca. Everywhere you look there is still the workings of the Inca.

We had a lovely last joyful supper and rest of the evening. I am sad to leave Peru but I am very excited about Colombia. We get into Bogota this evening.
